Average UK House Price Rises By 8.2%

New figures have revealed the average price of a house in the UK has risen by 8.2% since last year.

The UK House Price Index states the average price of a house in England is now £225,000, with average prices in London at £470,000.

In Scotland, the average price increased by 3.3% over the year to £138,000, while Wales saw prices rise 1.7% to £139,000. In Northern Ireland, this figure is currently £118,000.


London was the region with the highest annual growth at 14.5%, while the lowest increase was 0.1% in the North East.

Richard Snook, senior economist at PwC, said: "The recent trend in house price growth is little changed as the new figures continue to show a surge in house prices in March, as buyers rushed to beat the introduction of the new 3% supplementary Stamp Duty charge on additional properties.

"Year-on-year growth in prices then dipped slightly to 8.2% in April from 8.5% in March. Overall, the housing market still appears reasonably strong as we move into the summer, with little sign yet of a drag from uncertainty around the EU referendum outcome."
