Recovery Work Continues At Collapsed Didcot Boiler House Site

Construction News Image
Recovery work is ongoing at the site of the collapsed boiler house at Didcot power station in Oxfordshire.

The bodies of three men are still missing after a section of the former boiler house collapsed during demolition preparation works on 23 February.

Recovery work was halted in May when contractors reached a 50 metre exclusion zone at the site, which was set up due to the buildings instability.

A controlled explosive demolition of the remaining structure took place on Sunday, 17 July. Once the site is deemed safe to access, recovery work will get underway.

The explosion was carried out by site owners RWE, Brown & Mason and Alford Technologies.

Thames Valley Police said: "Specialist officers are continuing to support the families of the missing men; Christopher Huxtable, Ken Cresswell and John Shaw, as well as the family of Michael Collings, whose body has already been recovered from the site.

"The absolute priority of our multi-agency response remains the recovery of the missing men so they can be returned to their families and to understand what caused this tragic incident."
