Spie UK To Deliver £3.3m BT Tunnel Upgrade Project

Spie UK has secured a £3.3 million contract to upgrade BT's network of tunnels in London.

The company will carry out improvement works on 23km worth of tunnels and aims to save BT around £1.5m on energy costs.

In addition, the project will remove 3,500 tonnes of CO2 from BT's carbon footprint.

Spie has already delivered a scheme to upgrade Environmental Ventilation & Humidity Control. Work to improve the Building Management System & Controls is scheduled for completion in 2017.

So far, Spie have provided BT with cost planning and risk management consultancy alongside design and technical management. The company will now design and install a control system to reduce energy, improve the lifecycle of the plant and technical equipment as well as warn of flood potential.

BT has also approached Spie UK to undertake a review of its tunnelling system in Edinburgh.

The company's Director of Energy and Engineering, George Adams, said: "The BT Tunnel contract and SPIE's relationship with BT is founded upon innovation and engineering quality, supported by an outstanding project management process."
