Plans Submitted For £100m Lambeth College Regeneration Project
Plans have been submitted for a £100 million regeneration project in Lambeth.
The scheme involves redeveloping Lambeth College's Vauxhall campus to create the new Nine Elms specialist skills centre.
Under the proposals, development partners Carillion and Arlington Real Estate will replace the existing 1960's buildings at the campus to build a training facility focused on construction, hospitality and science and technology.
It is estimated around 3,500 apprenticeships and 2,200 jobs will be generated by the facility, which will allow employers to be directly involved in curriculum design and delivery to ensure learning meets current and future industry needs.
Features of the site will include a fully-operational training hotel as well as additional local housing and public realm improvements. The multi-million pound project will benefit from up to £22.25 million of funding from the London Enterprise Panel.
Monica Box, Interim Principal and Chief Executive of Lambeth College, said: "The local community has been really engaged with the college for this development and can see the benefits this skills centre will bring to the area's education provision and the career and training opportunities for local young people. It will be a landmark and transformational development for this area and reinforce our commitment to be London's career college."
Simon Eastwood, Managing Director at Carillion Developments, added: "This is a pioneering project for the UK's Further Education Sector, which will utilise the expertise of employers, working in partnership with the college, to address skills shortages in sectors such as construction."
If approved, the project will begin at the end of this year and the Skills Centre is scheduled for completion in 2019.
