Network Rail has reached a major milestone on its Midland Main Line upgrade project in Leicestershire.

Engineers have completed demolition works on Syston Road bridge and work is to begin on a new replacement bridge in October and November.


The scheme is part of Network Rail's £40 billion Railway Upgrade Plan and aims to provide more seats for passengers travelling between Sheffield and London St Pancras through the East Midlands.

Gary Walsh, Area Director at Network Rail, said: "We are committed to improving services for rail users as part of our Railway Upgrade Plan, as well as minimising disruption to local residents living in Syston and the surrounding villages."
