Morgan Sindall To Deliver New Primary School In London
Morgan Sindall has been a selected to deliver a new primary school in London.
The contractor will build the new multi-million pound Albion Primary School in Southwark. The development is due to be completed in 2018.
Designed by Haverstock architects, the scheme involves demolishing the existing school to create space the new facility. The building will include additional classrooms with larger space, open-plan learning spaces, external covered play areas, wet play areas, a new playground, a floodlit Multi Use Games Area (MUGA), a bicycle track and a dedicated play area for nursery and reception pupils.
In addition, a special school growing garden will be created including a garden area for year six pupils as well as two external learning terraces and a specially designed gallery space.
The project is expected to achieve a BREEAM 'Very Good' rating by making use of energy efficient double glazing, photovoltaic panels and LED lights. The school will be built using sustainable timber and 20% of the school's energy will be renewable.
Cllr Victoria Mills said: "We are very proud to be investing in this outstanding school. Our pro-active plans mean that children will have a fantastic new school where they will learn, play and achieve great results. We are also increasing the places available at the school so that more Rotherhithe children and families can benefit from this investment."
