Highways England To Begin Cumbria Bypass Upgrade
Nearly £1 million is to be invested in a bypass drainage and resurfacing project in Cumbria.
Highways England will start work to redevelop the A66 Brough bypass on Sunday, 29 January.
The £938,000 scheme, which involves rebuilding parts of the carriageway to create safer journeys for motorists, is scheduled for completion in late March.
Highways England project manager Peter Gee said: "This is a sizeable routine repairs project which will ensure that drivers can continue to enjoy safe, smooth and reliable journeys along the A66 past Brough.
"Although we are reconstructing parts of the carriageway we’ll be doing all we can to minimise inconvenience to drivers by doing the drainage work at the side of the road during the day and the more intrusive carriageway resurfacing and reconstruction work between 8pm and 6am overnight.
"Highways England is carrying out all the work in the eastbound dual carriageway with single lane closures being used around the clock. Other, occasional, arrangements may be used overnight such as drivers being led past the road works at 10mph by a contractor’s vehicle. A 40mph speed limit will also be in place."
