Plans Submitted For Phase Two Of £70m Altair Development
Plans have been submitted for the second phase of a £70 million mixed-use development near Manchester.
Developer Nikal is aiming to continue work on the Altair scheme, a new major residential, leisure and lifestyle Quarter in Altrincham town centre designed by architects Stephenson Studio.
Eric Wright Construction has already started demolition and enabling works for phase one of the scheme, with plans including a new apartment building containing 59 units and ground floor retail space.
Phase two will involve building four contemporary style buildings comprising of 91 apartments to be built by Hillcrest Homes, Nikal's award-winning luxury homebuilding arm.
A total of 44,000 sq ft of leisure retail space will be developed, including 20,000 sq ft of Grade A offices and a 200-space basement car park.
Other highlights include a new public realm, linking the new Quarter to the Transport Interchange as well as providing an attractive outdoor environment.
Nikal Managing Director (MD), Nick Payne, said: "We’re excited to be sharing our vision for Altair as a dynamic and thriving new Quarter in modern Altrincham. Phase Two reveals how Altair will complement the town’s existing offering and help attract new residents, workers, businesses, shoppers and visitors from near and far.
“Its an exciting time for Altrincham. The town centre is evolving and it has already become a popular place to live, work and socialise. This stylish new Quarter will provide high quality but affordable new homes where values will appreciate as well as create exciting new opportunities for retailers, leisure providers and businesses looking for superior commercial space with unrivalled transport links and amenities."
A planning decision on phase two is anticipated in April 2017.
So far, a major town Altrincham centre improvement programme has included significant public realm works, a £19 million tram, train and bus Transport Interchange and the restoration of the Market House into a hub for independent enterprise, attracting new restaurants, cafes and artisan retailers.
