IBI Group Appointed To Strood Riverside Regeneration
IBI Group has been selected to draw up plans for a major regeneration project in Medway.
The firm will prepare a Development Framework for the transformation of Strood Riverside.
IBI will work alongside the council, flood defence engineers and property developers to design plans to regenerate the stretch of waterfront overlooking Rochester Cathedral and Castle over the next 20 years.
Proposals include developing new transport infrastructure, whilst creating interesting and aesthetic architecture and public spaces to encourage development interest.
In addition, IBI will to engage local stakeholders to build consensus around how the development should look.
IBI Group Project Lead and Studio Associate Director, Marcus Wilshere said: "Strood Riverside has the potential to become one of the country's most vibrant waterside places and act as a significant catalyst to regenerating the wider Medway area. We are delighted to have been selected for one of their most important and high profile projects."
As one of Medway's key development sites, key priorities for the scheme are:
• to provide between 500 and 600 new homes.
• to develop a recreational waterfront, with new public spaces and leisure facilities.
• to improve access to Strood station, the town centre and the Medway City Estate.
• to provide community support facilities.
