Britcon Wins £1.6m Contract

Construction News Image
Britcon has won a £1.6 million contract to expand a bio-acrylamide production facility in Bradford.

The project will be carried out at the BASF Group's COMAH site. Britcon's structural steelwork division is manufacturing and installing the steel framework for a new building dedicated to the production of Poly acrylamide, which is used to extract oil from water.

The new structure will comprise a 36 by 22 metre footprint with seven levels to fit into a tight space at the new plant, which will rise 16 metres higher than the existing buildings.

Britcon will work alongside Richard Allen Engineering on the scheme, who are managing the overall project installation and specialist plant equipment install for BASF.

Kevin Cocker, Senior Construction Manager at Britcon Engineering Services, said: "We are delighted to secure this contract with BASF for which we will manufacture 350 tonnes of British Steel at our site in Scunthorpe.

"The new building has to sit within the existing production units and so for the structure above existing building level we are prefabricating modules to lift in by tower crane. It's a complex procedure but one we have particular expertise in."
