Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) has appointed Balfour Beatty to carry out an overhead electricity line refurbishment project across Southern England.
The contractor will design and refurbish five 132kV overhead lines in the region to replace parts of the network which are coming towards the end of their working life.
The company's Power Transmission & Distribution business will manage the delivery of all wayleaves, undergrounding and undercrossings, temporary works including scaffolding and access works. In addition, it will be responsible for the steelwork, foundation and conductor refurbishment across all five lines.
Pre-construction works are to begin this year, with completion scheduled in 2018.
Ian Currie, Managing Director of the Power Transmission & Distribution business, said: "We have significant experience in delivering projects of this complexity. Our innovative methodologies will ensure that we can mitigate any technical challenges effectively, while providing a cost effective workable solution."
