Work Complete On Eight New Homes In Liverpool

Construction News Image
Construction work has been completed on eight new houses in Liverpool.

The Liverpool Housing Partnership homes are part of a scheme to create 1,500 new properties across the city.

The new homes have been developed on the former Larkhill Library site facing Queens Drive.

Each family home benefits from contemporary interior spaces and high-quality fixtures and fittings. Three-bed properties also have private balconies overlooking the adjacent park.

The affordable rent development is one of several LMH schemes supported by the Partnership's cross-subsidy model, which sees receipts from land sales to Redrow Homes ring-fenced and reinvested by Liverpool City Council into affordable housing.

The approach means Redrow developments like the newly launched Regency Manor in West Derby directly subsidise affordable rent new-builds like Hewitson Road.

Challenging sites are a particular focus area for funding. Hewitson Road had suffered five years of neglect, following Larkhill Library's closure in 2012. Legacy issues deterred firm interest from home builders, which made the site an ideal candidate for cross-subsidy.

LMH Chief Executive Steve Coffey said: "Hewitson Road started out as a challenging site with issues relating to previous development and anti-social behaviour.

"We set ourselves a challenging brief – to create a striking dual aspect scheme with views over the park as well as the main road. The end product has exceeded our expectations and added a high quality designed landmark enhancing the character of Queens Drive.

"Partnership working with the LHP members played a key role at this high specification development, the first of several Partnership-supported schemes currently completing across the city."
