A new £23 million building has been opened at the University of Bath.

The 6,000m2 facility has been built for the Department of Architecture & Civil Engineering.

Designed by AHR Architects, it features new double height studio spaces, workshop and exhibition areas.

As well as containing academic offices and bespoke zones for staff and students, engineering and design principles are showcased in the building with highly visible gallery exhibition space. It doubles as a social learning destination for students, and views into 3D printing and making spaces.

Gary Overton, Director at AHR, said: "The University of Bath sought a robust and durable building that was well executed with good proportion, befitting both engineering and architecture disciplines.

"Our team, which included architects who have themselves taught in the Department of Architecture, used their own experiences of teaching to add unique value and insight to the project."

Head of Architecture, Professor Alex Wright, said: "We're delighted that after many years of planning we're able to offer our staff and students a huge improvement in their working environment. The building is a pleasure to use."
