Caledonian Wins ESFA Schools & Academies Contract

Construction News Image
Caledonian has been named as an approved supplier on the £50m Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) Framework to act as Lead Designer and Principal Contractor for the design and build of new schools, academies, and other educational facilities.

Caledonian and its Design partner HLM Architects will deliver innovative design led solutions that promote the intelligent use of Building Information Modelling (BIM), Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA) and the use of Lean Manufacturing techniques to eliminate waste. This will enable entire school buildings to be manufactured off-site with only minimal works required onsite to install, connect and commission the buildings.

The national agreement for the design and build of modular primary schools is one of three batches procured directly by Central Government, with Caledonian being selected as one of the two suppliers on the second batch to provide offsite building solutions.

The Framework, which falls under the second wave of the Priority School Building Programme (PSBP), is due to go live in August 2017 for a period of up to 4 years. Sixteen schools will initially be delivered, with further schemes expected up to a value of £95m.

The ESFA plans to continue to develop and apply the modern methods of construction (MMC) provided through the framework to further programmes, revolutionising the way education buildings are specified, procured and delivered.

Paul Lang, Chief Executive Officer of Caledonian, said: "I'm delighted that our collaborative stance and quality of Caledonian's approach has been recognised by our place on the framework and our innovative offsite solutions will play a significant part in delivering the Government's strategy for the education sector.

"Gaining this place on the Framework underpins our strategy to double revenues in the current financial year, where we have already created over 100 new jobs since January, with significant growth anticipated in Education, MoD, MoJ and residential sectors.

This follows on from winning a £50m contract to design and build a 1,500 hotel style living accommodation for key workers on the Hinkley Point C power station development."
