Milestone Reached On Monmouthshire Bridge Upgrade Programme
A milestone has been reached on a road bridge upgrade programme in Monmouthshire, south east Wales.
The Rogiet Road bridge has been opened to traffic following improvement works by Network Rail.
The structure is one of nine bridges upgraded across Monmouthshire since 2015 to raise their height in preparation for new equipment to support new bi-mode Intercity Express Trains.
The new bridge at Rogiet Road is the last structure to reopen following upgrade work. It can now accommodate heavier vehicles, is fit for modern day traffic, has a new footpath for pedestrians and improved road alignment for better accessibility.
Andy Thomas, Route Managing Director for Network Rail Wales, said: "Our railway plays a vital role in connecting people, businesses and communities, as well as supporting economic growth.
"The work we have completed to bridges in Monmouthshire will help to accommodate the equipment needed to improve the passenger experience. We would like to thank the local community for their patience as we carried out this modernisation work as part of our Railway Upgrade Plan."
