Sir Robert McAlpine has won a £65 million contract to build a new UK Government hub in Cardiff, Wales.
The 12-storey facility will be developed at Central Square on the site of the former Western Mail & Echo print works and completion is scheduled for the end of 2019.
Designed by practice Gensler, the over 270,000 sq ft building will be one of the largest office buildings ever built in Wales, capable of accommodating over 4,000 people.
Sir Robert McAlpine will be supported by a professional team on the project that includes ARUP as both structural & mechanical engineers and MACE as project managers.
Paul McCarthy, Chief Executive of developer Rightacres, said: "Sir Robert McAlpine played a big part in helping us secure the Hub to Central Square. They have fantastic local team each of whom has an impressive portfolio and we look forward to working with them to deliver this project."
Peter Munn, Wales and West Managing Director of Sir Robert McAlpine said "We are delighted to have been appointed following the collaborative dialogue with Rightacres in developing proposals and reaching contract award.
"The commencement of the construction work marks a key milestone for the project for which we are very proud to be a part of, and we look forward to working closely with all stakeholders in realising this exciting development."
The first wave of civil servants are due to move into the new offices in 2020.
