Work Continues On New £7.8m Cardiff Primary School

Construction News Image
Morgan Sindall is continuing work on a new £7.8 million primary school in Cardiff.

The new Ysgol Glan Morfa facility is being built on Lewis Road and will accommodate up to 420 pupils once finished in July 2018.

The project involves creating around 2,500 sq m of floor space in a two-storey primary school and nursery building. In addition, the school design also incorporates facilities available for community use, including a multi-use games area and a room available for hire.

Mark Stephens, senior project manager at Morgan Sindall, said: "The building's steel frame is in place and we have just finished installing the roof and windows.

"Next we'll be completing the external brickwork and fitting the internal sprinkler system. Everything is progressing well ahead of a summer handover next year."

Speaking at a turf cutting ceremony earlier this year, Deputy Cardiff Council Leader Sarah Merry said: "As well as the work we have undertaken to create a new home for Ysgol Glan Morfa in Splott, we also have schemes underway to provide purpose-built schools for Ysgol Hamadryad in Butetown, Ysgol Glan Ceubal in Llandaff North and Howardian Primary School in Penylan."
