Museum Seeks Workers To Help Deliver £18m Expansion Project
A museum in County Durham has started hunting for construction workers to help deliver a new £18 million expansion project.
Work is currently underway at Beamish Museum to add 30 new exhibits to a 1950s Town, 1950s Farm and expand the Georgian Landscape, including a coaching inn, where visitors can stay overnight.
Tradespeople such as bricklayers, stonemasons, general labourers, joiners, electricians and plumbers are being urged to get in contact if they are interested in working on the Remaking Beamish project. A number of apprenticeships will also be created.
Overall, the scheme is expected to create nearly 100 new jobs, with up to 50 apprenticeships also being generated. The project will take place over the next three to four years and the museum said it will remain open throughout the building programme.
Michelle Lagar, Remaking Beamish Project Officer (Skills), said: "We're looking for qualified and experienced local tradespeople who would like the opportunity to work on this unique project.
"Our in-house Buildings Team have extensive experience in creating both historical and modern buildings but, to deliver a project of this size, we need to grow our construction capacity.
"We're looking for flexible tradespeople with extensive experience of working on large multi-site building projects. We'd like to hear from people who have an eye for quality and attention to detail and are available for short and long term contracts."
