Stepnell has been appointed to deliver a new £7.8 million mixed-use regeneration scheme in Walsall.
The Wisemore Central project will comprise of leisure and retail facilities to connect the western quarter of the town as part of a wider ‘community-spirited' hub. Work is anticipated to begin in April with completion scheduled for the end of the year.
Features include a new 60-bed Travelodge Hotel, a two-storey McDonalds restaurant, and a further 15,000 sq ft of leisure/retail premises. In addition, the development will generate between 100 and 120 new jobs.
The project team will consist of Stepnell; Corstorphine & Wright (Architect) Nolan Associates (Engineers) RPS (QS) Rose Project Services (PM) and Wright Silverwood (Agent).
Overall, the development will fit in with the £400m ‘Gigaport' scheme, an office corridor with the potential to create up to 3,200 new jobs.
John Rawlinson, Stepnell's regional director for West Midlands-based office, said: "We are delighted to be working with Cordwell to deliver this major mixed-use development. This important scheme will make a significant contribution to further regeneration in Walsall, and also enables Stepnell to provide community benefits including local job, training and apprenticeship opportunities and work for local suppliers.
"Appointing a local team helps ensure the deliverability of the scheme. We are all excited to be working on a project which will create valuable facilities for both residents and visitors, bringing more people into the town centre and contributing to the area's prosperity by giving rise to a wide range of employment and training opportunities locally."
