Wates To Deliver New £32.8m Leisure Centre In Maidenhead

Construction News Image
Wates has been appointed to build a new £32.8 million leisure centre in Maidenhead, Berkshire.

The new Braywick Leisure Centre will replace the current 40-year-old Magnet Leisure Centre in Braywick Park.

Designed by architects Burke Rickhards and based on community feedback during the consultation process, features will include a new 10-lane swimming pool, larger training and splash pools, a 200-station gym, four squash courts, a larger sports hall, improved accessibility for disabled users and sports teams, and 500 car parking spaces, double the amount previously available.

Firms interested in securing work on the project are now being invited to a Meet the Buyer event at Maidenhead Town Hall on Friday, 13 April. Attendees will be given the chance to meet the teams at Wates and Constructionline, a provider of procurement and supply chain management services, and to register interest and tender for contracts as part of the new Leisure Centre.

Alec Jackman, Business Unit Director, Wates Construction Southern Home Counties, said: "The Royal Borough has put forward a bold vision for the new Braywick Leisure Centre, and we’re very happy to help make it a reality. Leisure facilities such as these are incredibly important in supporting the health and wellbeing of communities, and we will work closely with our partners to ensure that the project is a success.

"Integral to that success will be the input of local people, and I’d like to encourage small businesses across the local area to attend our Meet the Buyer event to find how they can become part of creating this exciting addition to Maidenhead."

Cllr Samantha Rayner said: "Braywick Leisure Centre offers us a once in a lifetime opportunity to provide residents with a state-of-the-art hub for sport, arts and a wide range of cultural events. Once complete it will be the major destination for sport in the Royal Borough and have activities to cater for all ages."

The new centre is expected to open at the end of 2019.
