Plans Submitted For £40m Newcastle Student Beds Scheme
Proposals have been submitted for a new £40 million student residential scheme in Newcastle city centre.
Adderstone Group is planning to build a 535-bed student scheme on the site of the Technopole office building at Manors Business Park, including a student hub, gym, dining room, games room and cinema.
The student beds will be located across 160 apartments in two buildings standing eight to 12 storeys high. The buildings will have a mix of accommodation including studios and two, three, four, five and six bedroom apartments.
The scheme, which has been developed in partnership with planning consultancy Lichfields and Ryder Architecture, will also help towards the overall redevelopment of the wider Manors Business Park.
A planning statement submitted by Lichfields confirmed that the development could contribute £10.7 million per annum to the local economy, create hundreds of jobs during construction and on completion as well as £500,000 to Newcastle City Council as Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) to deliver infrastructure to support the development of the wider area.
Lichfields said: “The scheme will result in the creation of full time and spin off jobs during construction, as well as supporting full time and part time job opportunities within the student accommodation itself, immediate area and wider city centre.”
Mark Clasper, Director at Ryder Architecture, said: “With the support of the city planners we feel we have arrived at a robust, quality design that will stand the test of time for what is, after all, a prominent site in the city.”
Ian Baggett, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Adderstone, said: “Discussions with the city planners over a number of years have paved the way for some of the buildings at the park to transition over to residential uses. The park is adjacent to Northumbria University Campus and perfectly located for student accommodation as well as businesses connected in some way to the university.”
