Plans have been approved for phase two of the £150 million mixed-use 'Boulevard' regeneration, featuring 273 new apartments, a landmark 150,000 sq ft town hall and office building, a district heat network centre, new public square, restaurants/cafes, and upgraded parking facilities.
Planning consent for the first residential building of 91 units was secured in 2017 and construction will begin after the summer. Works on the new Town Hall and office building will start in 2019, with property investor Westrock aiming to achieve a BREEAM 'Excellent' rating on the scheme.

Matt Willcock, Development Director for Westrock, said: "This project is turning out to be a town-centre landmark project exemplifying how thoughtful design can be balanced with sustainability, affordability, and the commercial goals of all stakeholders involved."
Cllr Andrew Skudder said: "This is a big step for the Council towards improving facilities for staff, customers and councillors. The new Town Hall will provide a significantly improved welcome and customer service experience for visitors. The overall scheme also brings forward another major regeneration project in the town centre. With Queens Square completed and Queensway, Eastern Gateway and Station Gateway coming forward these are exciting times for the town."
