Engie Appointed To £17.8m Tower Hamlets Regeneration Scheme
Engie has been appointed to help deliver a £17.8 million regeneration scheme in Tower Hamlets, London.
London & Quadrant (L&Q) has chosen the contractor to build a new 65-bed apartment block on a disused area close to St Katherine's Dock.
Existing buildings on the site have been demolished over the last 18 months and work is now underway to redevelop the area, with completion scheduled for May 2020.
So far, Engie has already been on site overseeing archaeological work and putting key measures in place for the Tower Reach scheme. Overall, the company will design and build one, two, three and four-bedroom apartments of varying tenure, to address the wide-ranging housing requirements of L&Q tenants.
As part of its commitment to the project, Engie has also confirmed a further £90,000 investment to offer employment and training opportunities for local people throughout the duration of the project.
Dan Germann, Regional Managing Director for Engie, said: "Considerable work has gone on behind the scenes to bring this project to fruition and we have been involved from day one. It has been a complex process as it required demolition work, but L&Q's unwavering commitment to deliver much-needed new homes in Tower Hamlets is ultimately what got us to this place.
"Over the next two years, we look forward to building high quality new apartments for a full mix of needs, while offering local resident's career and training prospects in a thriving industry. This is something that we do on all of our schemes across the UK and one of the key reasons we were appointed on this project."
