Work is continuing on a multi-million pound teaching and communal facilities expansion programme at Torquay Academy, Devon.
Morgan Sindall has started work on a £2.2 million scheme to create a new 300-seat theatre for the Academy, as well as carrying out upgrades to the school's dining and sports facilities.
Features will include extending the school's dining room, multi-use hall and alterations of the existing multi-use games area (MUGA). The new 300-seat theatre will be created with two changing rooms and two PE classrooms, located behind the sports hall on the edge of the MUGA.
The project is being delivered in partnership with Corporate Building Consultancy. Work is scheduled for completion in spring next year.
Nigel Whelan, area director at Morgan Sindall, said: "Torquay Academy has undergone an exciting transformation of its facilities in recent years and we're very proud to have played a central role in making the school's vision a reality.
"We're so pleased to have been appointed to deliver the next step in this exciting journey for Torquay Academy and to redevelop its dining and sports facilities. The new space will create a bright and modern communal and teaching environment for both students and staff and we're looking forward to handing over their new facilities next year."
Mark Brothwell at Corporate Building Consultancy, said: "Working with Morgan Sindall has been a good experience. The team are dedicated, responsive and professional. We look forward to creating a quality product with a collaborative contractor whose main objective is to provide a first-class educational facility."
