£10m Loughton Housing Scheme Hit By Fire

A £10 million housing development has been badly damaged by a fire in Loughton, Essex.

The blaze broke out at the scheme in Burton Road on Friday, 17 August. No injuries were reported.

Contractor Mulalley was delivering the mixed-tenure residential project on behalf of the council, which comprised 17 homes and 34 apartments.

Council Leader Chris Whitbread said: "This is a construction site and there are no tenants living here. However we are obviously concerned about everyone working on the site at the time the fire started.

"It is too early to say what caused the fire but it is clearly large. Essex Fire and Rescue has cordoned the site off.

"You can always rebuild bricks and mortar, the important thing is that everyone appears to be safe and the fire is now out."
