Morgan Sindall To Deliver New £60m M1 Motorway Services Area
Morgan Sindall has been chosen to help deliver a new £60 million Motorway Service Area (MSA) at Junction 45 of the M1 near Leeds.
The contractor will deliver the main buildings of the 'new concept' facility, featuring a food court building and a 100-bedroom hotel, together with parking areas and onsite roadways. Work is scheduled to start on site this Autumn.
The central building design will feature exposed long span glulam timber beams with a 'living green roof' to blend with the natural landscape. Internally, the facility interior will feature a wide range of food and beverage 'brands', together with ancillary retail outlets, a wildlife visitor centre, business centre and dedicated space for community activities. There will also be an upper-floor viewing deck overlooking Skelton Lake and the surrounding landscape.
Around 400 jobs will be supported during the construction phase, with around 300 new full-time jobs created once the MSA is operational.
Morgan Sindall's Managing Director for the North, Barry Roberts, said: "We are really excited about working with Extra to deliver this phase of the project, realising the vision that has been set out by our customer.
"This is a major investment for the region and we will do everything we can to support and work closely with Extra to create jobs and offer opportunities to local people and companies during the construction works."
Completion is scheduled for summer 2019.
