Community benefit consultancy SeerBridge has helped inspire the next generation of engineers with its Lego design and build competition, Beyond 2020.
In collaboration with HTA Design LLP, the competition asked teams to design a home reflecting life beyond the year 2020 with a Lego pack, laptop, and help from a mentor.
Its aim was to raise awareness of the opportunities in development and construction and challenge young people to use their imaginations to create stand out designs.
Seven teams of six young people aged 11 to 15 years old, from Greenwich, Newham, Haringey and Wandsworth presented their designs to a prestigious panel of judges made up of Ben Derbyshire (RIBA President), Peter Murray (Chair of NLA) and Claire Bennie (Founder of Municipal).
A team of all-girls from Newham boxing academy, Fight for Peace, was announced as the inaugural winners of the competition.
Wesley Ankrah, managing director of SeerBridge said: "When I thought about running a Lego competition two years ago, I never imagined that we would see 40 young people engaging with such a project and giving so much of their time and effort. The most pleasing thing of all is that all the teams want to continue their relationships with their mentors and learn more about design.
"We hope this is just the start of their journey."
