Plans for a new state-of-the-art Aquatics Centre in Smethwick, Sandwell are moving forward with the appointment of a design and construction partner.
Wates Construction will serve as the partner and work along with Sandwell Council to develop the construction programme and design for the new facility.
The contractor will provide significant economic and social benefits to Sandwell's businesses and residents, engaging a local supply chain and creating a comprehensive employment and training plan.
John Carlin, Regional Managing Director, Wates Construction Midlands, commented: "It is a huge privilege to be appointed as the design and construction partner for this important community facility for Smethwick.
"As a locally-based company, we're extremely excited to be part of the area's changing landscape but more importantly, we're working hard to create a lasting legacy. We're committed to delivering an exemplary project that creates a tangible economic and social impact and is completed on time and to budget."
Alison Knight, Sandwell Council's Executive Director for Neighbourhoods, said: "This is a very exciting development for Sandwell, bringing a much needed modern leisure facility for our residents in Smethwick. We look forward to working with Wates and seeing the delivery of a world class facility that will serve the residents of Sandwell for decades to come."
The plans for a new Aquatics Centre were approved by the Council's planning committee last month and ratified at a full Council meeting on 09 April.
