Major Welsh Archaeological Company Set To Benefit From Expansion

Construction News Image
Archaeology Wales has recently moved into a new base located on the Treforest Industrial Estate. Consisting of offices, areas for finds and environmental processing and a dedicated store, the facility is conveniently situated between Cardiff and Pontypridd, close to the A470 near J32 off the M4.

As well as acting as an operating hub for fieldwork carried out in Southeast Wales, the base has sufficient space for the company's finds and environmental teams to process materials and samples retrieved from all its sites, whether they are located in Wales or England. Currently, staff are working on assemblages recovered from sites in Ipswich, west London and Manchester as well as Caernarfon, Newtown and Newport (Pembs).

The facility is headed by Rowen Hart, MCIfA, Regional Director Wales, and the team includes a Project Manager, a Health and Safety Manager, Supervisors and Site Assistants, as well as dedicated finds and environmental staff with specialist skills covering areas such as building materials, flint artefacts, Roman pottery and glass, animal and human bone, paleo-environmental archaeology and pollen analysis.

The move from the previous facility in Caerphilly went smoothly and the team are already enjoying the benefits of the better facilities, more offices and greater space.

In line with its philosophy that the best client-focused services are those delivered by locally based Project Managers and support staff, the company will continue to operate out of offices located in Swansea, Llanidloes, Conwy and Manchester, with a new office planned for Southwest England, possibly Bristol, later in the summer.

The increased capacity of the company represented by the new facility is already proving beneficial, with fieldwork teams taking part in large schemes such as the HS2 railway infrastructure project.

The new address is:

Archaeology Wales, South-East Wales Office

Unit D11.6

Treforest Industrial Estate

Pontypridd, CF37 5UR
