Work Begins On New £6m Lincolnshire Leisure Centre
Construction work has commenced on a new £6 million leisure centre in Market Rasen, Lincolnshire.
Located on Gainsborough Road, the 18,300 sq ft leisure centre will be the cornerstone of a wider £7.8 million council investment to improve the health and wellbeing of local residents, proactively addressing rising levels of obesity, Type 2 diabetes, and dementia.
The centre will be set over two storeys and will feature state-of-the-art exercise equipment, alongside a 7,400 sq ft sports hall, café and changing areas. There will also be an external 3G all-weather pitch.
Morgan Sindall is delivering the scheme designed by CPMG Architects for West Lindsay District Council through the Scape Regional Construction framework.
Rob Cant, Scape Regional Construction framework director, at Morgan Sindall Construction said: "First-class leisure facilities are the foundation of any health and wellbeing strategy, and we're incredibly pleased to working with West Lindsay District Council to deliver on its plans.
"We have deep expertise in the leisure sector and understand the specific requirements of Everyone Active, having worked with the operator on other successfully-received centres across the Midlands.
"The framework procurement route enabled early collaboration between everyone involved, allowing us to apply our experience, capability and local supply chain connections, taking the project from planning to groundbreaking without delay."
Construction is expected to be completed in spring 2020. Once open, the centre will be operated by Everyone Active.
Kerry O'Neill, contract manager at Everyone Active, added: "We're excited that construction work is underway to bring an excellent new centre to Market Rasen. It has been designed to cater for the needs of local people and encourage them to live healthier lifestyles.
"We have worked with West Lindsey District Council for a number of years and have a fantastic partnership in place. It is great to extend our work with the Council to deliver another centre that the local community can be proud of."
