Lidl Continues Nationwide Expansion

Construction News Image
Supermarket chain Lidl is continuing its nationwide expansion programme with the delivery of two new stores in the Midlands.

The two stores, located in Loughborough and Droitwich Spa, feature a full-height glazed façade and a modern interior, as well as on-site bakeries, management offices and welfare facilities for store employees.

The 2,460 square metre Loughborough site has been built on a brownfield area and the steel-framed Droitwich Spa store sits on the Droitwich Spa Retail Park on the edge of the town centre.

Construction firm Stepnell worked with Lidl to deliver the projects, following successful work on stores in Birmingham, Oakham and Bedford.

Stepnell East Midlands regional director Tom Sewell said: "This latest store takes us to five delivered through the Lidl GB framework and illustrates our ability to deliver high-quality, contemporary supermarkets on tight schedules for one of the country's leading grocery chains.

"This continued success highlights our strong track record in retail construction and our ability to deliver challenging projects to the highest level of finish."

The new stores were designed by John Roberts Architects.
