When To Use Tower Scaffolding

Construction News Image
A tower scaffold is a freestanding scaffolding system that consists of a single working platform. It is also referred to as scaffold tower, and is gaining popularity in the construction industry as well as others because people are becoming more cautious about safety at work and worker's rights.

It comes with and without wheels. When a tower scaffold has castors attached to the base for easy movement, it's called a mobile scaffold; and when it is stationary without wheels, it is called a birdcage scaffold. Tower scaffolds need outriggers for stability in most situations, and can reach a height between 10 to 12 meters.

In the past, ladders were primarily used for work at heights. However, standing on the rungs of a ladder for a long span of time can become quite uncomfortable. Tower scaffolds are therefore a very welcome substitute.

Every scaffold is designed to serve a specific purpose. Similarly, tower scaffolds are very useful in certain instances which are discussed below. In projects where prolonged sessions of working at height are expected, tower scaffolds provide an excellent and affordable solution.

Tower scaffolds can be used for light tasks such as repair, painting the outside of your house, underlaying a roof, plastering and electrical work on walls and ceilings in the construction industry. They can be employed on both the interior and exterior of buildings.

For projects that are spread over a large area, it is hectic to erect and dismantle a scaffold each time work in a different location is required. It is difficult for the laborers to assemble and disassemble, and uses up a lot of time and energy. Therefore, tower scaffold is just the thing to use for large scale projects. It can be conveniently and safely moved from one place to another without the need for dismantling, saving time and energy.

These scaffolds prove very useful in the film industry as well as for lighting and camera purposes. Not only do they allow professionals to work safely and efficiently at a height, they also allow for easy movement from one spot to another.

In these times where Do-It-Yourself (DIY) projects are all the craze, tower scaffolds offer amateurs/hobbyists a simple solution to practice and polish their skills. A tower scaffold has a wider working platform and allows people to put their tools and equipment handy as they get on about their tasks.

Tower scaffolds are lightweight which is why they are easy to erect, move, and dismantle. However, their lightweight nature means that their use should be completely avoided in strong winds as that can be dangerous. Most of the fatalities in the construction industry are related to scaffolds and falling from heights so it is imperative to follow the guidelines set out by the scaffold manufacturer, and ensure a safe working environment.
