Contract Awarded For MoD Community & Water Sports Centre
A new state-of-the-art Community and Water Sports Centre is set to be built at the Ministry of Defence's Royal Air Force station Akrotiri in Cyprus.
The station is the home of the Cyprus Operations Support Unit which provides joint support to British Forces Cyprus and operations in the region.
This centre will be built across a 12-month period starting in September 2019, and will accommodate Armed Forces personnel and their families.
Interserve has won a contract worth over £2.5 million to deliver the facility.
The firm provides a wide range of infrastructure support services to the UK Armed Forces' four Permanent Joint Operating Bases (Falkland Islands, Gibraltar, Cyprus and Ascension Island).
The Community and Water Sports Centre will be a free-standing single storey structure and includes a classroom, bar, eating area and changing facilities.
Interserve delivers estate and infrastructure services in Cyprus which enables the deployment of military capabilities from the British Forces Cyprus Sovereign Base Areas and United Nations Peacekeeping Force Cyprus in Nicosia.
Brian Talbot, Interserve's Managing Director, Defence, said: "We have a proven track record of working with the Defence Infrastructure Organisation and we are proud of the work we do to support the Armed Forces. Our extensive defence facilities management expertise spans more than two decades and marks Interserve out as the market-leader in this sector.
"This contract win aligns with our strategy to develop long term relationships with clients such as the Defence Infrastructure Organisation."
This project is being funded from the LIBOR banking fines funding made available to the Ministry of Defence by the 2016 Autumn Statement which confirmed over £100 million of funding to support Armed Forces and Emergency Services charities and other related good causes.
