GRAHAM have embraced the use of digital tools on the site of the new multi-million pound port terminal, Tilbury2.
The Port of Tilbury, regarded as the UK's fastest growing port, provides "fast, modern distribution services" for the benefit of the "south east of England and beyond".
GRAHAM's construction programme, on land at the former Tilbury Power Station at the north bank of the River Thames, will create the "UK's largest unaccompanied freight ferry port" and the "country's biggest construction processing hub".
To aid with the construction work, GRAHAM said that they have applied innovative technologies, including construction management software, BIM 360 Field, that have supported their site team in completing checklists and updating site diaries.
BIM 360 Field has also helped the supply chain and the client (Port of Tilbury Ltd) to stay connected with progress.
With over 300 ITRs (Inspection Test Record) continuously completed through BIM 360 Field, information is set out in a clear, concise manner, furthering the systematic approach of test completion.
In addition, QR codes are streamlining workflows and radically reducing the time spent verifying information.
By scanning a bar code, all relevant information specific to that area is immediately available. Given the scale of the project, it has been divided into zones and the QR Codes represent a specific zone.
Commenting on the benefits of using digital technology, GRAHAM Quality Engineer, Sally Postle, said: "Using BIM 360 Field at Tilbury2 provides the engineers on site with a clear overview of the work, and using the QR codes to split the site into areas, means they have full visibility of the necessary checks specific to their work. This digital approach has significantly enhanced our quality assurance processes as all information is electronically collated into one system."
