£750k Steelwork Underway At Lincolnshire Community Stadium

Construction News Image
Steelwork has commenced on the £12 million stadium for Lincolnshire National League North team, Boston United.

The Boston United Community Stadium is being built to Football League standards with increased capacity from 4,000 to 5,000. It will also provide a new range of community, sports, education and training programmes. The scheme includes a sports hall, an all weather 3G pitch for community use and educational and conference facilities. A climbing wall and dance studio have also been added to future plans.

Chestnut Homes has committed to deliver the community stadium as a part of its wider mixed-use masterplan, The Quadrant, in Boston town centre.

Britcon Engineering Services (BES) has started work on its £750,000 steel contract, which will see the design, fabrication and installation of full structural steelwork for the stadium.

Kevin Cocker of BES said: "We are delighted to be working with Chestnut Homes, the Club and its community to deliver this long-awaited stadium. We are fabricating and erecting over 350 tons of structural steel for the project as well as the composite flooring to the first-floor areas. We are working closely with other contractors supplying the pre-cast terrace and stairs units, cladding and glazing to ensure timely delivery before the new season."

David Newton, Managing Director of Chestnut Homes & Chairman of Boston United Football Club, added: "We are delighted that work is underway at the New Community Stadium, which will give Boston United and its Community Foundation a secure future. Britcon has been entrusted with the design and construction of the steel frames and external staircases. It has been a pleasure to work with them, and they have done an excellent job in liaising with the other specialist subcontractors to ensure full design integration. Work is on programme, and the site personnel have also been excellent and very professional. We thank them for their valued contribution to the project, and we all look forward to seeing Boston United playing football at the new Community Stadium next season."

The West and North stands will be complete with associated facilities by the start of 2020/2021 season with the East and South stands to follow.
