Projects Taking Shape At Liverpool John Moores University
Two construction projects are beginning to take shape at Liverpool John Moores University's new development in the city centre.
A major milestone was celebrated on the new five-storey Student Life Building with a topping out ceremony. Representatives from contractor Morgan Sindall and the Students' Union were on hand to mark the building reaching the highest point of its construction.
The Student Life Building is one of two structures to be built at the former Post Office site on Copperas Hill. It will provide a range of student-facing services including advice and wellbeing services, careers advice, international exchanges, an area for individual and group study, the Students' Union (JMSU), and general teaching spaces.
Work has also commenced on the second Copperas Hill project, the Sports Building. When complete, the two-storey building will feature outstanding facilities such as an eight court sports hall, two multi-purpose halls and a state-of-the-art gym.
Both buildings will regenerate a historic part of Liverpool and a key gateway site in the heart of the city centre.
Richard Potts, Morgan Sindall Construction's area director for Liverpool, said: "Reaching this milestone is a great opportunity to celebrate the progress that's been made on this project, which is a landmark development not only for the University but for the city as a whole.
"It's a privilege for us to work with the University in fulfilling its vision of revitalising a key part of Liverpool while creating buildings that will further its reputation as a brilliant place for students to study and socialise."
LJMU's Interim Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive, Mark Power, added: "I'm delighted to see the fantastic progress being made by Morgan Sindall Construction on our landmark Copperas Hill development.
"Our superb new Student Life Building and Sport Building will offer outstanding facilities and really enhance the university experience for students at LJMU and will link our campuses in the city centre.
"The development is bringing wider benefits to the city by regenerating a key gateway site and creating attractive open spaces."
The Copperas Hill development is set to be completed in 2020.
