Coloured Asphalts Deployed On Devonshire Retail Park Scheme

Construction News Image
Aggregate Industries' host of coloured asphalts have been deployed on the recently opened Devonshire Retail Park.

Located in the Torbay area, the complex includes prominent retail outlets and five modern retail warehouses. It also forms the hub of a new residential development, with more than 1,500 new homes built on the retail park and its surrounding site.

Devon Contractors and Roadform Civil Engineering called on Aggregate Industries to supply asphalt for the surfacing of the customer car park - providing spaces for 339 cars, including 20 disabled spaces.

The brief looked to create clearly distinguishable disabled bays in blue and electric vehicle bays in green, as well as buff coloured entrance roads.

Aggregate Industries' Express Asphalt division suggested the use of its innovative SuperColour range, a collection of distinctly coloured high-performance asphalts, which can be tailored to produce a bespoke solution in line with a project’s unique specification.

In August this year, the leading construction materials supplier provided 420 tonnes of SuperColour Ultra surface course in buff, green and blue, preceded by 1,200 tonnes of standard asphalt and 210 tonnes of aggregates. The result was a striking car park where the disabled and electric vehicle bays were easy to spot, while the entrance roads provided a contemporary finish in keeping with the natural surroundings.

Katie McKeown, Business Manager - Express Asphalt at Aggregate Industries, said: "As one of the region's most prominent development schemes, Devonshire Retail Park naturally requires a modern car park, complete with clearly marked disabled and charging bays for the rising number of electric vehicles now on the roads. With a selection of high performance asphalt blends at our disposal, including different colours and performance properties, we're incredibly proud that our SuperColour range proved to be the ideal solution in meeting the unique requirements of this project."

Chris Masters at Roadform Civil Engineering, added: "I'd like to thank Aggregate Industries for the service the company provided throughout this project - from the meticulous planning and delivery of the materials, to the invaluable technical advice. I'm really impressed with the hard work that helped us to successfully complete the works on time."
