Highways England Selects Developer For M6 Scheme
Highways England has appointed Amey and Sir Robert McAlpine to lead the transformation of a key motorway junction in Cheshire.
The joint venture has signed on to deliver a £43 million overhaul, which will see Junction 19 of the M6 near Knutsford upgraded with a new bridge through the existing roundabout and over the M6, creating a better flow between the motorway and the A556.
These improvements will speed up journeys and reduce congestion around the roundabout itself which already provides a free-flow link from the Knutsford and Bowdon bypass onto the southbound M6.
Robert Allen, Framework Partnership Director, Amey Sir Robert McAlpine, said: "We are delighted to have been selected to deliver the transformation of Junction 19 of the M6 through the Routes to Market Regional Delivery Partnership.
"Our collaborative approach to delivering this scheme forms part of a comprehensive upgrade of Manchester's southern access, creating better journeys for those using this road network."
Work on the multi-million pound project will begin in 2020.
