Bell Contracting Adopts Latest Mecalac Innovations

Construction News Image
A building, groundworks and home development specialist in Forest of Dean has secured a number of innovative solutions from construction equipment manufacturer Mecalac.

Bell Contracting has invested in six state-of-the-art Mecalac 9MDX cabbed site dumpers, which will be deployed for earthmoving applications in projects across Gloucestershire, Herefordshire and Worcestershire.

Purchased from Kellands Plant Sales, Mecalac's dealer for Somerset and the surrounding areas, the 9MDX pairs stylish design with impressive operator functionality. A curved glass isolated cab provides outstanding visibility, while minimising noise and vibration.

Adopting a highly-efficient 3.4L, 55kw Perkins 854 IIIB-compliant engine, the cabbed unit generates 424Nm of torque. DPF exhaust after-treatment (with passive regeneration) ensures the model meets EU emissions standards, while next generation power brakes, driven by the main hydraulic system, deliver significant improvement in pedal feel and braking effort.

Commenting on the agreement, Pete Bell, Managing Director at Bell Contracting, said: "With a company-wide focus on improving site safety, adopting the latest innovations in safety-critical compact equipment is hugely important. With the Mecalac MDX range, we were impressed with the ground-up product design and unique Shield safety packs."

Standard on all six and nine-tonne models, 'Shield' is Mecalac's first-stage technology upgrade pack. Key features include start/drive interlock, handbrake warning, front-facing camera, fuel loss warning, Stop-Start Control, idle shut-off and park brake test. As part of the purchase agreement, Bell Contracting upgraded to Shield PRO, which adds skip interlock, tilt limit, rollover lockout, custom speed limiter and idle shut-off (via Bluetooth, iPad or Android tablet) to the existing features.

Mark Payne, Managing Director at Kellands Plant Sales, added: "The Bell Contracting team have been loyal customers for a number of years. With operator safety instrumental for sites nationwide, Pete made the decision to specify the latest cabbed dumper technology and looked towards the MDX range from Mecalac.

"The nine-tonne cabbed model suits his needs entirely, especially with Shield, meaning the six new units will be a welcome addition to his plant portfolio. We look forward to providing servicing, aftersales support and maintaining our strong relationship in the future."
