Once complete, the new development will increase the Great Yarmouth Charter Academy's capacity from 750 to 1,350, and create an additional 150 places for a new cohort of sixth form students.

Alongside the new build, Morgan Sindall Construction will be demolishing an existing temporary classroom and upgrading the current science labs to provide the academy with additional general teaching spaces, as well as improving the dining hall and creating a new sixth form hub.

Peter Whitmore, managing director for Morgan Sindall Construction in the East, said: "We're very pleased to be celebrating this milestone in the building programme at Great Yarmouth Charter Academy.

"This is an important project for the academy and will provide school users with outstanding facilities - enriching the learning and teaching experience, and supporting a brand new cohort going into sixth form.

"Morgan Sindall Construction is well-versed in delivering first-class educational facilities across the region, and we look forward to continuing to make good progress on this key expansion which will enhance the facilities available for young people across the region."

Work at Great Yarmouth Charter Academy is scheduled for completion in November 2020.
