Staffordshire Landscaping Works To Tackle Anti-Social Behaviour
Work is set to begin along the A50 in Staffordshire to tackle anti-social behaviour hotspots.
Kier Highways will deliver landscaping works at the woodland and garden ornamental landscape areas to make them more open, welcoming and safer.
The business will cut back and thin overgrown shrubs and dense trees before spreading a colourful collection of wildflowers.
Four sites that surround footbridges along the A50 will benefit from the £72,000 from Highways England to improve the aesthetics of an area along the network. Works include; thinning out woodland, replacing much of the ground cover with a mix of grass and clover and planting of wild flowers such as crocus, daffodils, hyacinth, bluebells and snowdrops and wildflower plugs such as garlic mustard, wild foxglove, bluebell, wood forget me not and wild primrose.
The areas will then be more cost effective to maintain and will increase biodiversity and habitats to flourish.
Kate Owen, Kier Highways landscape manager, said: "The environment team has been aware of this location and promoting an improvement for this area for a number of years and we are very excited to get the environmental greening started. This will improve the use of the area from a wellbeing perspective for local residents. We hope that the improvements will benefit everyone and look forward to seeing the bulb and wildflower planting brighten up the area and improve biodiversity near the A50 for everyone to enjoy."
