Plans have been submitted to develop over 270 new homes in Poplar, London.
Muse Developments and Poplar HARCA submitted the plans to the London Borough of Tower Hamlets for 274 new homes on Stroudley Walk.
In addition, the proposals have a strong focus on creating a safe and thriving, vibrant neighbourhood, and include a new pocket park and part pedestrianised street with business and retail spaces for the whole community to enjoy.
Isabelle Asante, development manager at Muse Developments, said: "Our proposed development at Stroudley Walk with Poplar HARCA will provide 274 homes, 50% of which (on a habitable room basis) will be much-needed affordable housing. This, together with extensive public realm upgrades, will create a real safe space for all, driving economic and social prosperity right into the heart of the community at a time when it’s needed most.
"A strong focus on consultation is at the core of this scheme. Together with Poplar HARCA, we have consulted the community at every stage of our plans to ensure the end result revitalises this neighbourhood centre, creating spaces which everyone can enjoy. The area has a rich history and we are working closely with stakeholders to understand how we can blend its heritage with its aspirations for the future."
Neal Hunt, Director of Development at Poplar HARCA, said: "Working with the local community, we want Stroudley Walk to be a place where the people who live there feel proud to belong, have a secure home they can afford, and live happy, healthy lives. The changes we are proposing will be transformative to the area, which has a unique and rich history, having close links to both the suffragette movement and Mahatma Gandhi. It is a very special part of London."
