Work Starts To Develop New Bus Lane In Bristol

Construction News Image
Work has started to build a new bus lane in Bristol.

An extension to the outbound bus lane will be built along Anchor Road, following work done last year to create an inbound bus lane on the busy road.

The road will also be resurfaced in places with safety improvements carried out on the pedestrian crossing outside We the Curious.

The project is part of Bristol City Council's vision to transform Bristol's transport network, creating cleaner air, more reliable public transport, and safer walking and cycling journeys.

The work is expected to be completed in late January 2021.

Mayor Marvin Rees said: "This is one of the city's busiest commuter routes and it’s important that this work takes place to improve bus journey time and reliability. We are committed to reducing air pollution and traffic congestion, so it’s essential that we do all we can to make public transport an attractive option for travel in and around Bristol.

"As well as making it easier to catch the bus in the long-term, these works will also make it safer to walk and cycle in the area. By making these bold changes we can protect public health and unlock barriers to inclusive economic growth by creating a more connected future for all Bristolians."

Works will take place between the junctions of Explore Lane and College Green, and throughout there will always be one inbound and one outbound lane open to all traffic.

The two main bus stops on Anchor Road (A1 and A2 in both directions) will be closed for the whole period of works with however temporary stops will be provided.
