Energy and services specialist ENGIE has been appointed to provide low carbon district energy services at the Battersea Power Station regeneration site in London.
Battersea Power Station is one of central London's largest, most visionary and eagerly anticipated new riverside neighbourhoods. The £9bn project will see the creation of a vibrant, mixed-use destination offering a community of homes, shops, restaurants, offices, culture and leisure venues, as well as 19 acres of public space, all serviced by an extension to the London Underground Northern Line.
The long-term contract involves the adoption of the Energy Centre and the pipework distribution network - including operation, maintenance and lifecycle replacement of the system. ENGIE will also provide metering and billing services to all customers and consumer services to each residential and commercial unit.
The network incorporates gas-fired combined cooling, heat and power (CCHP) - or tri-generation technology; providing efficient cost effective energy and enabling affordable heating and cooling to all businesses and homes on the landmark development.
ENGIE will provide an initial 9 MW of heat and 5 MW of cooling and will begin to serve the first phase of the Battersea Power Station development upon completion from Q4 2020. The use of tri-generation will deliver carbon savings of up to 30% compared to traditional methods of heat and cooling supply, equating to 50,000 tonnes of CO2 over the lifetime of the contract.
