Third Phase Of Park Hill Flats In Sheffield Complete
Construction company Kier has completed work on the third phase of Park Hill Flats in Sheffield to Alumno Group.
Park Hill Flats is Europe's largest Listed building, covering 400 acres of land overlooking central Sheffield.
The flats were initially built between 1957 and 1961. By the 1990s they were in decline and largely abandoned. Kier has been constructing phase 3 of the refurbishments to convert this block into modern student accommodation. This includes 74 townhouse-style units to accommodate 356 new student bedrooms. It also comprises new commercial space for use by residents and the local community.
The development of the flats was carried out with respect to the original design and in line with Historic England guidelines for the Grade II-listed building. Extensive concrete repairs were required with window replacements, new partition walling, and the addition of new services.
The project has also brought additional benefits to Sheffield in the form of social value and investing in communities where Kier provided work experience, supported apprenticeships, and utilised local labour wherever possible.
Regional director, Kier Regional Building Northern, Dan Doherty, said: "We are delighted to have handed over the completed Phase 3 of the Park Hill Flats project to Alumno Group. The scheme has not only improved an area of Sheffield for students and residents for years to come but has also enabled us to invest and provide a legacy to the community in which we work."
