Manchester City Council Appoints Director Of Housing

Manchester City Council has appointed Kevin Lowry as its Director of Housing.

It follows a year filling the position in an interim capacity.

He joined the Council in the caretaker role at the end of 2019.

Kevin's remit was to head up the Council's housing and residential growth department and begin a formal review of the Council’s Arm's Length Management Organisation (ALMO), Northwards Housing.

This year, Kevin celebrates 44-years as a housing professional having worked across a range of property and housing roles, including local authority, housing associations, ALMOs, third sector and housing trusts.

Previously, Kevin has been the director of Housing for three local authorities, CEO of five housing associations – including interim CEO of Wythenshawe Community Housing Group – and the CEO or two specialists charitable housing support providers.

As a member of the Chartered Institute of Housing, Kevin acted has a career mentor to other housing professionals, as well as a volunteer mentor for the Founders4Schools initiative in the North East.

He said: "I'm honoured to take up the permanent position at Manchester Council following a year working with the housing and residential growth team.

"The city makes for an incredibly exciting place to work, and it's with some relish that I can look forward to supporting the continued growth of the city in the long-term - along with really ambitious projects to help meet the city’s housing priorities.

"I'd like to thank my colleagues at the City Council for their support over the last year, and I look forward to many more working with a great team."
