Newgate - Secure Access Solutions has announced it is re-evaluating data the company compiled 12 months ago based on a study from the National Business Crime Centre.
The firm is currently revisiting the data to see how UK Business crime has changed over the course of the last year.
Key Findings include:
• There are up to 3.8 million incidents of business crime each year
• Around 50% of small firms have been a victim of business crime in the last 2 years
• The annual cost of UK business crime is an estimated £12,9 billion
• Robbery and burglary was the most reported type of business related crime
• There were 284,622 incidents of shoplifting over the course of last year
• Cyber-crime against businesses is now the third most popular business crime
• 38% of small firms say the 'lack confidence in police response' and therefore did not report a crime
Crime rates by area
• According to the Office for National Statistics there were a total of 4,961,284 recorded criminal incidents over the last year in England and Wales
• London accounted around 827,322 of those recorded incidents
• The South East recorded the second most incidents with over 690,000 incidents of crime
• The North West was third with around 670,000 incidents with over 270,000 of those coming from the Greater Manchester area
• The North East of England had the fewest number of recorded incidents at just over 260,000
