Conamar Wins £11m Garsington Opera Deal
Conamar has secured a deal for a major new arts and rehearsal building for Garsington Opera, Wormsley.
The £11million building is now undergoing the next stage of design development and procurement of key sub-contractors, with works due to commence on site in June.
The Arts and Performance venue is a new build, set within the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, replacing disused agricultural buildings. The new buildings make use of the materials that are typical of the Chilterns vernacular – brick and flint walls, dark stained weatherboarding and plain clay roof tiles – alongside a green roof, to ensure that the performance spaces, rehearsal rooms, recording studios, wardrobe workshops and catering areas blend into the environment whilst providing fully functional modern facilities.
Nicola Creed, Executive Director of Garsington Opera, said: "We are very excited to be launching this project, which gives us the opportunity to improve the quality and efficiency of our opera productions, broaden our provision to the local community, and deepen the impact for all participants as well as assisting with our aim to become more sustainable."
BCR Infinity Architects will lead the design team moving forward working alongside NBW whom are the schemes concept architects being retained by the client. Civil and Structural Engineering is by Momentum Consulting who have worked with both the Opera and Conamar previously. Fire Engineering and Acoustics will be by BB7 and AWN Acoustics.
