Construction firm Kier has been appointed by Slough Borough Council to deliver a new £3million project that includes the remodelling and extension of the community building in Britwell, Slough, to include a new GP surgery.
The project, procured through SCAPE, one of the UK's leading procurement authorities via the SCAPE Construction direct award framework, designed to drive collaboration, efficiency, time and cost savings. It is being jointly funded by NHS England and this project will transform two existing buildings into one modern and fit-for-purpose building.
The 911m2 building will provide an integrated approach to treating patients, with consultation rooms as well as spaces to carry out minor procedures. Kier starts on site this month and the work is set to be complete this winter.
Louisa Finlay, managing director of Kier Regional Building Southern, said: "We are proud to be delivering this important new GP centre for the Britwell community. When complete, it will provide first-class facilities that will enable the GPs staff to effectively cater for, and treat the needs of its patients.
"Over the course of this project, we will work with our local and skilled supply chain partners and provide job and training opportunities for residents of Britwell as we look to leave lasting legacies in areas in which we work."
Mark Robinson, group chief executive at SCAPE, said: "Over the last year the NHS has shown everyone in the UK what it is truly capable of, even when faced with significant resource gaps. The addition of the Britwell GP Hub will enable Slough Borough Council to future proof its services, adding a fantastic asset and much welcomed local asset to its healthcare services. The team at Kier have vast experience in delivering facilities of this nature, working rapidly, safely and in a way that minimises disruption. At SCAPE, we’re proud to play a part in accelerating the delivery of this important healthcare facility, so that the community can benefit from the next generation services and extra capacity that the Hub will offer."
