A public consultation has launched on plans to build 15 new council homes on a former depot site in Lanham Way, Littlemore.
Oxford City Council's housing company Oxford City Housing Ltd (OCHL) intends to build 9 two-bed and 6 three-bed houses on the site, which is currently owned by Oxfordshire County Council.
Eight homes will be let at social rent and the remaining seven will be shared ownership or another affordable tenure. Social rent is calculated with reference to the size and value of a home and average regional incomes. In Oxford, social rent is typically around 40% of equivalent private rents.
The development will aim for carbon emissions 70% below current building regulations by using eco-friendly building materials and considering sustainable features like solar panels and air source heat pumps. OCHL is exploring the use of modular construction to minimise the development’s carbon footprint, reduce construction time and improve build quality.
All homes will have cycle parking and charging points will be provided for electric vehicles. Living spaces will be orientated to maximise sunlight and link directly to outdoor amenity space. Front gardens with low boundary stone walls will ensure the new homes blend in with the character of the existing neighbourhood.
The consultation runs until Thursday 22 July and is available to complete at www.oxford.gov.uk/lanhamway.
The council is holding two Zoom Q&A sessions on Thursday 15 July at 10.30am and 6pm. People who are interested in attending one of these sessions need to pre-register through the consultation homepage by Tuesday 13 July.
The consultation outcome report will be published online on 11 August. A planning application and further consultation is expected in September.
